I attended the Fillmore Unified School District (FUSD) Board Meeting this week and was surprise at what I heard. Sometime back I reported on a large 501c3 nonprofit here in California that covers Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito. This nonprofit is somewhat like ACORN, in that it has its fingers in many pies and thus has a great deal of control and influence. About two years ago Central Coast Alliance United for a Sustainable Economy C.A.U.S.E. advertised on Craigslist to hire people to man the phones in an effort to convince Californians to overturn Prop. 13 in an effort to raise property taxes. The idea didn't get much traction and C.A.U.S.E. failed in their attempt. But at the school board meeting a woman who runs a small 501c3 nonprofit here in Fillmore spoke to the Board and handed out a letter addressing the Board written by C.A.U.S.E.

In the letter C.A.U.S.E. basically tell the Board what they (the Board) needs to do because the extra funds they're receiving are a result of C.A.U.S.E. campaigning for Prop. 30. LCFF and LCAP are the school funding programs where tax dollars are taken from the wealthier areas and distributed to the poorer towns. There was a comment during the meeting stating "Thousand Oaks is very jealous of Fillmore because Fillmore is getting so much more per student." Thousand Oaks is an upper class area and where most of the real tax payers live. Fillmore exists basically on Section 8 housing and Welfare, aka the Government handouts. This is a perfect example of spreading the wealth and screwing the working citizen. Here are direct quotes from the letter.

"The Central Coast Alliance United for a Sustainable Economy (CAUSE) writes to urge the Fillmore Unified School District to place high priority in its public engagement process in the development of its Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) to spend funding from the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF). FUSD is one of the primary beneficiaries of the LCFF, in our region.......Significant new resources due to the passage of Prop 30 and the LCFF, along with greater local flexibility and control in allocating the district's budget, come with a profound responsibilities for the district to ensure teh needs of low-income and immigrant families are being met..........CAUSE was a key local anchor group in the campaign for Prop. 30, successfully turning out 17,000 identified supporters to the polls. This spring we talked to over 7,000 local voters about the importance of the LCFF, with 78% of those we spoke with supporting the plan. Those voters approved higher taxes........"

The letter goes on to quote what is required when receiving the funds and then give "suggestions" on what the board should do which includes hiring bilingual translators at all meetings and hearings along with bilingual automated calling system.

What is important about this letter is that CAUSE openly admits and brags about their promoting a political cause and isn't one bit shy about admitting they are breaking the law by doing so. CAUSE receives millions in Federal and State Grants, your tax dollars. A very self serving nonprofit, wouldn't you say?

This is just one of these monsters that hide in plan sight and no one does a thing about it.
