Well whaddaya know,

Looks like we are seeing the beginnings of a revolt here and there.

The city manager of Lindsay has resigned after receiving violent threats stemming from a fracas over utility rates in this Tulare County town.

Scot Townsend says he and his family have faced harassment since an Oct. 26 City Council meeting where some residents accused city officials of hiking water rates to finance raises for city leaders, a claim officials vigorously deny.

Something one has to look at...

I didn't read the article, I'm not registering with Sac Bee.

However:

Most people see their utilities, such as gas, electrical, water, phone, etc. as coming out of the wall - as if the tooth fairy should provide it all next to free of charge.

Is the water department treated as a separate entity, or is it a part of the city to be milked ( in so many ways) like DWP?

Is there actually a money trail linking city officials lining their pockets as well as taking care of cronies, or is the rate increase demonstrated to be for necessary maintenance and other service sustainability and citizens don't believe the fact?

There's lots of ways and angles to game public service and for public service to game it's customers.

Did the city manager actually have his hands in the till, or is he just running scared of being falsely accused?

I don't trust the media, government officials, "citizen action groups" or utilities to be up front and objective when it comes to the the dollar.

The media least of all, what sells papers?

No one should have to put up with threats of violence...not even politicians!
