It happened while he was patrolling the Hidalgo-McAllen area last night around 7 p.m. We're told the agent saw some smugglers and chased them down to the river. That's where the smugglers ambushed him. They threw rocks at him and his vehicle. Some of the rocks were large. The agent was seriously injured. He's now receiving medical care at a San Antonio hospital.
