Comedian Brad Williams Rants About Tall People Cast As Dwarves In “Snow White And The Huntsman”
June 8, 2012
Where’s the outrage there? Our favorite dwarf comedian Brad Williams is angry over the lack of real dwarves in last weekend’s box office winner, Snow White and the Huntsman. Universal Pictures decided to cast well-known British actors in the roles instead of little people, so Brad plans to protest at Universal Studios.
TMZ reports that the non-profit group Little People of America is also upset at the snub. A representative for the group said Hollywood should be actively trying to cast little people in roles. “This means both casting people with dwarfism as characters that were specifically written to be played by little people … and other roles that would be open to people of short stature.”"Seinfeld” actor Danny Woodburn told the New York Post that casting normal size actors as dwarves was “akin to blackface.”
Brad can’t believe Universal would pay more money to digitally place the actors’ faces on little people’s bodies than hire real little people. A rep for Universal said the casting decision was based on the actors’ “pedigrees and recognizability,” not body type.
That’s not stopping Hollywood theater group Beacher’s Madhouse from staging a massive protest. After all, the movie stars Kristen Stewart so they can’t be that concerned with acting pedigree! No date has been set for the “100 Midget March” to Universal’s offices, but Brad sounds like he’s ready to go! http://kroq.cbslocal.com/2012/06/08/comedian-brad-williams-rants-about-tall-people-cast-as-dwarves-in-snow-white-and-the-huntsman/
