Default Protest Illegals In Van Nuys

I know this may be too short of notice, but anyone wishing to oppose amnesty might want to consider an event held in Van Nuys tomorrow eve.

Quote:
The vigil takes place Friday,Oct. 22, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Van Nuys Civic Center, 6262 Van Nuys Blvd.

Quote:
He said every year, "billions of dollars are paid by undocumented workers to the Social Security Trust Fund," even though because of their status, they will never have access to that money.

"There are a lot of misconceptions that immigrants are a drain to the U.S. economy and we want to show that's not the case," Reza said.

Given the up coming gubernatorial elections, Reza said the vigil is also meant to encourage voter participation and inform them about the candidates' positions on key immigration related issues, such as the California Dream Act and the AgJOBS bill.

"Very few people understand the California Dream Act, which is different than the federal DreamAct," Reza said.

Approved by the California legislation but vetoed by governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, the California Dream Act would allow undocumented students in the state to have access to financial aid.

Meanwhile the Agricultural Jobs, Opportunity, Benefits and Security Act (AgJOBS) would create a program to legalize immigrant farm workers who have worked in the U.S. for two years.

Although Reza, an avid Democrat, said his group is "non partisan" and does not advocate for any party or candidate in particular, he noted the gubernatorial candidates, Republican Meg Whitman and Democrat Jerry Brown, have "dramatically different" positions in regards to these bills, and people should know about them.

"Meg Whitman does not support them but Jerry Brown does," he said.

To get their point across, Reza said they plan to have undocumented students at the vigil who will relay their personal testimony as to how the Dream Act would benefit them. He said there will also be a presentation on the loss of life along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Speeches by community activists and other individuals are also planned.

Reza said the Coalition was formed two months ago after a community forum on these issues at Mary Immaculate Church in Pacoima attended by some 100 people.

"We realized there was enough interest and support for an ongoing community based group like this," he said.

He said the group is composed of people from Mary Immaculate and Santa Rosa Church in San Fernando, non-profit groups and other individuals.

Reza said they're expecting to have between 500 and 700 people at the event, which they have been advertising to the Sunday masses at the above-mentioned churches, and at other venues.

They have also asked residents at those churches to express their support for a comprehensive immigration reform bill by signing "Message to Congress" cards, which will be sent to Congressmen Howard Berman and Brad Sherman, Senators Barbara Boxer, and Diane Feinstein, and President Barack Obama.

"Our goal is to advocate for the positive impact of undocumented workers and educate the general public as to these issues," Reza said. "We also want to encourage people to vote and to be better equipped to make better informed decision when they vote."

Why would legal citizens advocate to give Illegal Invaders financial aid while our legal citizens struggle to pay for an education?

Why would we want to legalize farm workers after a mere 2 years of working in the US? They are being paid to Invade us.

If they plan to have Illegal students why not have every person and every friend call ICE and invite ICE to the party?

I sure hope we will have a LARGE group at the party.

"Not everyone believes the same way or agrees to the same extent" is the best way I can put it without getting into an extended essay.

I don't believe ICE would attend that event. There would be too much of a stink raised and Obama is already skating on thin ice both ways - he refuses to fully and meaningfully enforce immigration law while not moving fast enough to suit the "activists".
