Default Santa Clarita Media Responding to SOS Rallies

The Signal posted a poll on the effect that our rallies have on their community.

Thus far 69% have voted that our rallies will help to address the illegal immigration problem in a positive manner.

59% voted that it will further and enable racism and racists.

18% voted that our rallies will bring negative consequences about.
The link for voting is: http://www.the-signal.com/polls/detail/144/

In the letters to the Signal section there are a number that are probably of interest to many of us: http://www.the-signal.com/news/section/35/

Please notice that on Feb 14TH 2010 The Signal featured an article on illegal aliens. That article can be read here:

One response to the article was:

Regarding "Facing the border: A day laborer's story" (The Signal, Feb. 7):
What were you thinking?

Even if you believe the biased propaganda in this article, it is horrible journalism and not fit to print. Regarding this article's final sentence - pure over-the-top drivel: "It's funny how you see people cry over a dog being rescued when we are treated like animals if we're caught."

No, that's not funny. What is funny is that this local newspaper - if it can be called that after this article - and this "staff writer" Jonathan Randles can publish on the front page as news this stinky pile of propaganda and call it news or an article or anything other than what it is.

A diatribe would not do justice to how offensive this article is to reason, intelligence, balanced and objective journalism, integrity and truth.

Randles, his editor, his supervisors and anyone else who approved this piece of trash should apologize for it, print a retraction and then be fired and blacklisted from journalism.

This article is the worst - and best - example of the consequences of political correctness - the death of truth, reason, objectivity and common sense.

I am a Santa Clarita resident and disgusted American citizen who obeys our laws.

SCVtalk.com is doing all that they can to label us as extremists.
David Gauny has been interacting with them.
If you go to this SCV link you will find their articles on SOS:
http://scvtalk.com/?s=SOS

I would like to email Mr Gauny but do not know his email address.

I believe it is necessary to let Gauny, Kellar and others know that we are simply patriotic Americans and nothing more than that.

Just because someone keeps repeating lies about us doesn't make us what they say we are.

The poor of Mexico - or any other country are NOT the obligation of the American Tax Payer.

Mexico is a very wealthy county and its poor is the responsibility of its ruling class, who no doubt find it amusing - not to mention lucrative to send their poor North. And call us racist if we object.

The Illegal Immigrants need to go home and take back their own country.

I commend City Councilman Bob Kellar for bravely speaking about illegal immigration. American life as we know it could soon end under the burden of illegal immigration.

Although many say immigration is a federal issue, its effects are felt primarily at the local level. Kellar understands illegal immigration is ruining the very fabric of our culture, bankrupting our economy and eroding the moral fiber of our community.

There isn’t a more compassionate community than Santa Clarita. However, our health care system is at its breaking point, the safety of our community is at risk and the quality of our children’s education is diminishing.

If teachers spend large amounts of time helping ESL students and administrators cannot stretch the budget far enough to cover the additional costs of educating illegal immigrants, then our kids can’t obtain the high-quality education California students once received.

Am I willing to sacrifice our children’s education for that of illegal immigrants? Am I willing to bankrupt our economy supplying welfare and health care to illegal immigrants? Will I sit quietly as I hear about women being raped and people like sheriff’s Deputy David March being brutally murdered by illegal immigrants?

Absolutely not. Neither should any other American citizen.

The bottom line here is illegal immigrants are depleting our tax dollars by overrunning our schools, our hospitals and our welfare system. Let’s not allow people to use sugar-coated terms like “migrant,” “undocumented” or, as Councilman Frank Ferry says, “the disenfranchised.”

They are illegal, which means prohibited, dishonest, criminal, illegitimate or banned. Should they be welcomed into our community or our country?

Martin Luther King Jr. said: “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”

Bob Kellar spoke out about illegal immigration and I thank him because too many people remain silent about something that matters so very much.

I'm a little upset with Sunday's front-page story ("Facing the border: A day laborer's story," Feb. 7) glorifying illegal immigration.

Why in the world would I want to read about someone who continuously breaks our laws by coming into this country illegally?

It seems that your newspaper has an agenda. It is made more clear in the way you are handling the Bob Kellar story.

Why don't you write more about the people who support him? I truly believe most of the people in Santa Clarita do support him and are sick and tired of this issue being swept under the carpet.

I don't want to read the opinion of cowardly politicians and special-interest groups who support illegal immigration.

It's time to get in touch with what the people of Santa Clarita feel.

Steve Lunetta: Corralling stray sheep
Right Here Right Now

Posted: Feb. 14, 2010 10:01 p.m.
POSTED Feb. 15, 2010 4:55 a.m.

A lone white man walks down the street in the heavily Hispanic side of Newhall. His skin color sets him apart from the brown-skinned residents. He carries no Watchtower tracts, nor does he wear a name badge announcing his church.

Groups of young men, arms decorated with tattoos, view the newcomer warily. A gringo on this side of town usually means parole officer, police officer or bounty hunter — none of which are welcome on this street.

But the fearless stranger has nothing more than a Bible in his hand. His words bring news of caring, hope and a chance at a better life.

Like a modern-day Johnny Appleseed, Dave Rentz goes where few missionaries dare to tread — the tough gang-infested streets of Newhall.

Rentz is the founder of StraySheep100, a ministry that seeks to reach gang members with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He believes that to turn a life around, one must begin from the inside-out. Rentz says, “We need to see where God is working and join Him. Not the other way around.”

Rentz’s remarkable journey to become a beacon of light in a dark underworld began in October 2004, when he befriended a young gang member who desperately needed help and guidance. At 13, “Octavio” was already wise to the street — drugs, violence and fear were his daily companions.

Most young men in Octavio’s situation see only one way out of their situation — gangs. After being kicked out of their homes, these boys see gangs as the family they never had — or lost. According to Rentz, gang families offer a shared purpose, protection and provision.

Gangs make money through a variety of avenues, but the most popular is the sale of illicit drugs, specifically crystal meth. Rentz said that it’s the most fashionable drug these days, since the user remains largely coherent and recall is mostly unharmed. This is not true with alcohol.

Meth is also easy to get across the border. However, the 97 percent addiction rate both aids the gang drug business and hurts it.
Gang members who use are severely disciplined. Strangely, gangs often check their own members to prevent drug abuse within their ranks.

The amount of money spent on anti-gang programs is staggering. According to the California Legislative Analyst’s Office, $119 million was spent in both the 2006-07 and 2007-08 budget years on “Juvenile Justice Crime Prevention Act” grants.

The irony of it all, Rentz pointed out, is that more and more gang members keep coming. The programs are largely ineffective.

We need a new paradigm.

Rentz believes the way to help these young men is by befriending them through a meal, getting to know a family or helping someone through a crisis. In that way, defenses are lowered so that a teachable moment can occur, showing the young person there is a viable alternative to gangs and life in the street.

This technique has enabled Rentz to create a network of friends and acquaintances who accept and trust him. He makes it clear he is not a police officer, informant or narcotics officer. He is not about law enforcement but changing hearts.

Rentz’s Web site contains several stories of the young men and families with whom he interacts. Often, Rentz provides a ride to a hospital or a connection to a social-service organization that can help prevent a youth from falling into the hands of a gang.

Rentz hopes that one day, StraySheep can provide a “halfway” church and house to help these young men make the transition back from gang life into mainstream society.

He envisions a place where sober living, good nutrition and spiritual guidance will enable youths to lead productive gang-free lives.

One time, Rentz approached a group of young men and they invited him to sit with them and talk. Pointing to a pair of missionaries from another church, one of the homies remarked, “See those guys? They show up once and are gone. You are different. You come back.”

That is what sets Dave and his ministry apart. He comes back because of his commitment to the mission of saving young men from a lifetime of gangs and the street.

If you’d like to be part of what Rentz is doing in the tougher streets of our city, visit www.StraySheep100.org or e-mail him at Dave@StraySheep100.org.

So do I. And every time this vision comes to me, the facility and location are on the other side of the border being financed with some other nation's taxpayer money.

Umm...is'nt "Gringo" pretty derogatory/racist of this paper to print?
After all, it's not PC to print, nor even say "Wet-back" these days, so what gives?

Not welcome on an American street......Wow, this artical really is insulting to any American Reader Whos taxes actually paid for the street/upkeep of the street....or Neighborhood for that matter.
