Default 'My children almost got shot': Teen's slaying shakes Canal

http://www.marinij.com/marinnews/ci_14988927

Ultra-liberal Marin it seems is having abit of a gang-related homicides in the past few weeks.
There was another artical from a few days ago stating that San Rafeal, once a reletively "safe" place was now more dangerous than gang-infested Petaluma, Santa Rosa, and novato.
From the Marin IJ:

Marbim Diaz, 14, and his little sister Kendra Canacho, 9, were relaxing on their beds Wednesday night when a bullet suddenly pierced the window above them and zipped across their bedroom - missing them by inches.
"I am very worried now," said their mother, Marina Sanchez, 39, who has lived in the same unit of the Camelot Apartments in San Rafael's Canal neighborhood for five years. "My children almost got shot."

Killed on a walkway outside their home at 3411 Kerner Blvd. was Helvin Geovany Vicente Perez, 18, of San Rafael, a day laborer and known gang member who suffered numerous gunshot wounds in the 9:30 p.m. shooting, police said.

Police said Vicente Perez was a native of Guatemala, but other details about him were not immediately available. Police initially thought he was 17 years old, but he was confirmed as 18 on Thursday.

San Rafael police were still investigating the case Thursday and had made no arrests.

The homicide follows a flurry of gang-related crimes in San Rafael in recent months, many involving teenage suspects or victims. In one incident in February, a 16-year-old boy was arrested on attempted murder allegations after a 26-year-old man was stabbed numerous times on Woodland Avenue.

Ten days later, a 19-year-old man survived six stab wounds on Canal Street; police said two girls apparently abetted the stabbing by confirming the man's identity just before the assailant attacked.

In Wednesday's incident, neighbors reported hearing a flurry of
booming gunshots; the stray bullet that nearly struck Marbim and Kendra entered the window inches above the level of their beds, traveled across the room at about a 45-degree angle and lodged in the opposite wall of the bedroom.
The bullet remained there Thursday morning.

"It was a drive-by," Marbim said. "And he (the victim) was standing right outside our window."

By Thursday morning, someone had erected a small shrine with a lighted candle and a Coke can where Vicente Perez's body was found, mere feet from the brick entryway to the Camelot complex.

Passersby on busy Kerner Boulevard paused to talk about what happened and ponder the incident.

"There is danger ... you can't even walk on the street," said Felix Robando Yah Cetina, a 24-year-old Novato man who was aware of the shooting and often visits his brother in the Canal neighborhood.

Avril Macile, 44, a nurse who works with low-income residents in the Canal, said that one pregnant mother she visited the day after the shooting was scared.

"We know that there are gangs around," Macile said of the neighborhood. "I think things are related to guns, drugs, money and a lack of education."

Anyone with information is asked to call the San Rafael Police Department at 485-3030. Witnesses can also call Bay Area Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS, a multilingual line, and place tips anonymously for possible rewards.

The case is the third homicide in Rafael in less than five months. On Nov. 30, Donald Adelio Espinoza Ordonez, 22, was shot to death outside his apartment on Larkspur Street - about 1,000 feet from the scene of Wednesday's slaying. No suspects have been arrested. Police have not said whether they suspect the killing was gang-related.

I guess that's what happens when an idiotic mayor like Al Boro declares His City a sanctuary City.

Liberalism truly is a mental disorder. I have never understood their almost pathological desire to commit suicide.
