One big red flag in my radar is; Was it an honor killing? It would be very easy to disguise an honor killing by simply placing a "note" next to the body. And 17 is about the age that a girl becomes romantically active.

The woman who was beaten with a tire iron was 32 years old.
The 17 year old who found her was the woman's daughter. "Honor killing" doesn't seem to be in order, as the mother was obviously sexually active with the girl's father at the age of 15: over a decade and a half ago. Some kids are active at 11 to 13 years old, and occasionally younger. There can be any amount of speculation, one of which is that the notes were a cover to throw off investigatory tracks - similar to faking a botched opportunistic robbery when the motive was personal revenge or criminal enterprise "business". We won't know until there is a released finding by the police, and maybe not even then.
