Yes, and more population means the need for more food which includes eggs. But we keep letting more people in to this country, and giving excuses as to why we're doing it and then why they should stay. Many of the illegals have their own hens and rosters so who's the loser when prices go up? Ya, that's right, you and me.

Billions of dollars will be lost to California because of this insane law. The effect isn't to make life better for chickens but to drive the state further into poverty.

More people mean they need more space, especially with building codes that prevent the squalor so common in South and Central America. Food production competes with housing production for space. Which will be required to yield first?

The effect is to force people into eating less meat. The vegetarians and the baby pukers are in league. You can get "free range" chicken, but it is insanely expensive.

Have a soylent green day, everyone!

The best thing to do is see the issue as a public health one. Is the public health served by squeezing chickens tighter and tighter together? Not really. Disease spreads like wildfire in an environment like this and the things they have to do to prevent that aren't very wholesome. You don't have to wring your hanky over what life must be like for a laying hen. There are other weird things they do to chickens to make them available for food. The more natural we can keep our meat supply, the better off we will be, vegetarians and baby pukers and their real estate developers be damned.

We had feel good legislation promoted by the manipulative leading the stupid. I knew and most thinking people knew that the humane treatment of chickens act wasn't going to result in the humane treatment of chickens. It was going to result in chicken ranching leaving the state like every other industry that found itself under attack by well intentioned LOONS. Naturally once Petaluma was no longer the Egg Capital of the world, the inhumane treatment of chickens would continue just elsewhere.

Pay attention, Please. If you did not pay attention before do so now. Legislation is being proposed that would prohibit importing any poultry product including eggs, unless the producer meets California state guidelines. This will make chicken more expensive than porterhouse and put eggs close to if not over $10.00 a dozen.

If you haven't seen the movie "Food Inc." yet, I recommend it.

Here's a trailer -
