It's two in the morning and they're still posting. It's up to nine pages.

I find it interesting that they would jump on the councilman's statement and have nothing to say about Mr. Shaw's similar statement.

I interpreted both to say "If you want to define me as a racist because I believe in my country, I'm a racist (your definition of a racist, not mine)".

Maybe it's because Mr. Shaw is a black man speaking at what the opposition would term a "white rally", and since "only whites are capable of racism", they'll ignore the aggrieved black father while stirring the white politician pot.

I'm surprised that they actually quoted Ray Herrera as saying this

While both sides of the immigration issue want reform, the tone of such rallies can be offensive to some because defining an American has always been a touchy subject, said Fernando Guerra, director of the Center for the Study of Los Angeles at Loyola Marymount University.

"We've had these battles (throughout history) as people defined what was an American," Guerra said. "There were the non-English-speaking Germans in Pennsylvania and the Catholics, who couldn't be accepted so they had to create their own universities. There was the question of the African-Americans and Native Americans."

Guerra also said the tone of such rallies can instigate hatred because no distinction is made when using the term "illegal."

"Even though I am a U.S.-born citizen with a Ph.D., as I'm walking down the street, they will use that definition against me," he said.

By his comments above Guerra would deny the involvement of someone like MR. Shaw, that it's all a white Anglo Saxon on Hispanic brown affair. He would seem to contradict himself because it's in his mentality to make no distinction between himself and illegal aliens (Nuestra gente). Now would Guerra continue his role by labeling Ray Herrera a racist?

Please don't start a word war with anyone on our side about this. All the time people are just waiting for something to cause friction. Cliff strolls around with a camera but he is really looking for anything an unspecting protester will say and then he and his sharks go home and pick it apart.

I myself, am not so upset about the statement because I don't consider that 'He declared him self to be a racist'. Wording is very tricky when someone is tearing you down because of one word or sentence. Before we start anothe war with someone about his remark I think it would be good to let him explain what he meant to say.
I really ruffled feathers at the old SOS when I said I was not going to protests anymore because, "I could get a knife in the back". Never in all my life did I think they would accuse me of meaning a 'real steel butcher knife'. I even edited the post to say 'more like a cold shoulder' but that was not good enough for the sharks, even after doing protests from 2005 to 2009. I am also tired of people redefining what I post because the way I express my self does not meet with their own. I don't always use enough words I think but I hope this long enough and what I call plain enough for all to understand.You do realize Naui, Cliff and a lot of others are reading here and who knows what they use our posts for.
Just please do not start a war about race or religion. Just go to any comments about Haiti or the telethon. George Clooney was really vilified for putting it together and the performers were blasted.(I thought Jennifer Hudson was outstanding) but I did not know most of the performers, they are too young.
Have all the protests you want just be careful that you don't let someone else define who you are or your words.
As a last point, Cliff strolls around with his camera but he is really after what ever he can record.
