Health Care Reform Moves Ahead

November 24th, 2009

The Senate cleared a key hurdle to health care reform on Saturday evening, overcoming a Republican filibuster attempt on a procedural vote. The routine cloture vote was held Saturday evening after the 72 hour waiting period required by Senate rules. Republicans did everything they could to block the routine vote, which was just to allow the health care bill to be debated, but it received the 60 votes needed to go forward.

And after all your hard work, it will go forward without the Stupak Amendment anywhere in sight. As Senator Boxer told the Washington Post last week, "I couldn't be happier. For those who want to keep abortion out of this bill, Senator Reid did it the right way."

The Senate will take up debate of the bill after Thanksgiving, aiming still to pass comprehensive reforms by the end of the year.

NOTE: Monday, November 30 join activists in front of Senator Boxer's Riverside Office at 12 noon - the same date the Senate begins debate on the Health Care Bill, which would cover illegal aliens.

I hope there is a decent turn out, it's worthy.

I can't make it myself due to work schedule.

Senate Health Care Bill Protest
November 30, 2009 - Constituents Rally and Visit Senator Barbara Boxer's Office Riverside, CA
Senator Boxer's Staff Refused Petition & Constituent's Letter
After a rally - photos below - in front of Senator Boxer's office building, activists sought a meeting with Senator Boxer's Riverside Staff in her NEW Inland Empire Office. The office receptionist claimed that Senator Boxer's entire staff was out of the building in a meeting until 4pm. The office receptionist refused to take our petition and letter and called Security Guard Jerry, who informed us we were trespassing and escorted us to the elevator.
3 SHORT VIDEOS

1. Activists with a petition signed by constituents opposing the Senate Health Care Bill and amnesty as well as a constituent's letter enter Senator Boxer's office reception area. The office receptionist says no filming.

2. As constituents wait for the receptionist, who repeatedly entered the door that led to Senator Boxer's office, we requested to leave the petition and letter opposing the Senate Health Care Bill and amnesty at the reception desk. The receptionist refused to accept the petition and letter - called Security Guard Jerry.

3. After Security Guard Jerry informed us that we must vacate the building, Raymond Herrera called Senator Boxer's Washington, DC office seeking a means to leave our petition and letter.

ACTION TAKEN: SENATOR BOXER IS OUR PUBLIC SERVANT!
1. Federal law mandates that all federal offices keep an activity log. Via the Freedom of Information Act FOIA - we will seek the log for Senator Boxer's Riverside staff on 11/30/09. We suspect Senator Boxer's staff was in the Riverside office when the receptionist stated they were not in the building.

2. An official complaint - that Senator Barbara Boxer did not provide office staff to receive her constituents' petition and letter - has been filed with the Senate Rules Committee http://rules.senate.gov/public/
A copy of the complaint has been forwarded to Senator Boxer's Washington, DC office.

3. Via the telephone, a request to schedule an appointment with the Riverside office staff has gone forward. When the meeting is scheduled, we will let you know as you are invited to attend.

Senator Boxer: NO vote on the Senate Health Care Bill & NO vote on amnesty legislation

Rally dog!

Passing motorists gave us thumbs up. One car filled with three elderly ladies - smilling - all three of them were giving the thumbs up in unison.
Not excessive horn honking - the positive responses were mainly hand gestures. We got one middle finger....and some motorists just blankly stared straight ahead. Some read the signs and responded by nodding the head YES.

After the rally, we ate down the block at Farmer Boys. A man rushed toward us - we thought he was angry - BUT he ended up thanking Dee and Penny (above with No Amnesty sign) profusely for rallying against Boxer and amnesty!

PETITION
A petition signed by constituents calls upon Senator Boxer to stage a health care town hall meeting, vote NO on the health care bill, vote NO to amnesty
Signing the petition

Above, an office worker passing by stopped to get information and signed the petition

The office receptionist and security guard refused to take the petition when it was presented to them. However, activists have contacted the Riverside staff and are seeking to schedule a meeting, at which time the petition will be hand delivered.

SENATOR BOXER'S NEW OFFICE

Activists seek an audience with Senator Boxer's staff members
In the elevator - en route to the 7th floor....

At the 7th floor, Senator Boxer's office reception area. After being told that Senator Boxer's entire staff was not in the building - they were all at meeting until 4pm - we waited for a representative to take our petition and a constituent's letter.
