There is a necessary connection between population growth and water consumption. Living space or "housing" developments use far more water per acre than farming does and housing developments and the growth of the food distribution industry go hand in hand. So if you want to see where the housing developments are most likely to go up, look for a grocery store outlet going up in what looks like the middle of nowhere. Because it is not going to be the "middle of nowhere" for very long. And of course the food that goes out of these food distribution centers doesn't come directly from any farm, it is typically processed and packaged in some way too. Industry and living quarters all consume water. The more people you have, the more water is needed. Somewhere, we are bound to run out.
