But many analysts note that the proliferation of weapons in Mexico cannot be explained entirely by guns purchased legally in the United States and then taken illegally across the border. I don't believe it is a coincidence that most of the military grade weapons used by the cartels just happen to be largely identical to Mexican Military issue which are weapons not generally used by the US armed Forces nor by American LEOs.
