Illegal immigrants "multiply like rats."

Recently, another Tennessee legislator, Republican Curry Todd, who supports strict immigration measures, gained notoriety when he said that illegal immigrants “multiply like rats.” Todd later apologized for the comment, but maintains his opposition to illegal immigration.

He could have worded it a little better, regardless of whether it's the truth or not. On the other hand, some people do read far more into a statement than what is meant. Politics is politics, one is bound to step on the occasional pile of doggy doo from time to time. The trick is to not let others smear it through the house on the politician's behalf.

I think this is where we start to fail. I wonder if it would be best to leave this out, and insert precise language detailing what would trigger an immigration check, ie...presenting false ID, possession of expired visa or passport, lack of drivers license when stopped while driving, etc. Why bring aboard all the ambiguous and obviously tainted baggage of "suspected of"?

If it's related to probable cause that a crime or infraction (of any sort) has been committed and everyone gets the same scrutiny, there's nothing to bitch about.

It is a violation to not present ID (or present false ID) when asked by an LEO after being stopped for a malfunctioning tail light or expired tags. Let's run some fingerprints and talk to the nice 187g man.
