After Jesus was born, Herod's army attempts to kill all the new born male children in Bethlehem.


Herod initiates the Massacre of the Innocents in hopes of killing the child Jesus. (Matthew 2:16-Matthew 2:18). But an angel appears to Joseph and warns Joseph to take Jesus and his mother into Egypt (Matthew 2:13).

I am not sure how long Jesus lived in Egypt, but this is the start of Egypt's connection to Christianity.

Throughout Egypt there are a number of churches and shrines that claim to mark an area where the family stayed. The most important of these is the church of Abu Serghis that claims to be built on the place the family had its home.
