More people mean they need more space, especially with building codes that prevent the squalor so common in South and Central America. Food production competes with housing production for space. Which will be required to yield first?

The effect is to force people into eating less meat. The vegetarians and the baby pukers are in league. You can get "free range" chicken, but it is insanely expensive.

Have a soylent green day, everyone!

The best thing to do is see the issue as a public health one. Is the public health served by squeezing chickens tighter and tighter together? Not really. Disease spreads like wildfire in an environment like this and the things they have to do to prevent that aren't very wholesome. You don't have to wring your hanky over what life must be like for a laying hen. There are other weird things they do to chickens to make them available for food. The more natural we can keep our meat supply, the better off we will be, vegetarians and baby pukers and their real estate developers be damned.
