To many California Latinos, former California Gov. Pete Wilson is "a monster ... a Frankenstein," says Latino leader Arturo Vargas. Wilson has resurfaced in this year's governor's race as chair of former eBay CEO Meg Whitman's campaign. Whitman's rival in the Republican primary, state Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner, has called for a return to Prop. 187-style immigration controls in California.
