Which means it costs the taxpayer about $2,724,284 of the $28,694,259 FUSD yearly budget. That’s your tax money used to educate the migrant workers’ children here in Fillmore, a town with a population of 15,000 people. They don’t advertise the statistics. This is the secret the growers and the politicians who benefit from the growers donations don’t want the public to know about, the actual cost of their cheep labor to the public. How may heads of lettuce could you buy with that money? And this is just one small town, multiply this by the thousands of towns throughout the country. More California stats: The Budget proposes to increase $36.7 million Federal Trust Fund in 2011-12 to reflect growth of nutrition programs at schools and other participating agencies. The Budget proposes to increase $12.0 million Federal Trust Fund in 2011-12 for the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, which provides additional free fresh fruit or vegetable snacks to students during the school day.
