This was reported on ABC news today:
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has ordered the immediate layoffs of 1,000 city employees to help balance the city's budget.

The mayor ordered the positions eliminated Thursday, a day after the city council voted unanimously to postpone any action on job cuts for 30 days while they explore other options.

I wonder if Villaraigosa is now feeling the difference between decades past college Mecha fueled Chicano idealism and the present unpleasant reality of being the somewhat impotent top cheese "force for change" in the City of Los Angeles.

The funny thing is that Villaraigosa is saying he is short by two or three hundred million that he needs right away.
Well he gave that much to Mexico for a green power project and there are no electrical lines to bring the power back. He blew all the money and no one is calling him on that. This has to be brought forth.

There needs to be an acoounting of how much money went to green projects that will not bring any positives within 3 years, and who supported them in getting the money.

Do you have any particulars?

Where exactly was this project to be located? If was actually built (embezzlement, diversion, and waste) who or what does it serve? Were or are there plans to build transmission and substation facilities to serve the city of Los Angeles?

"Reported", did it come out in the union paper, did local media quote Local 18 officials, or is this a word of mouth thing from union meeting discussion?
