Van Nuys - Police searched today for whoever used a pellet gun or a sling shot to shoot out windows of several businesses and three cars in Reseda and Van Nuys.

The vandalism spree started about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday and continued until around 10 p.m., said watch commanders at the Los Angeles Police Department's West Valley and Van Nuys stations.

"It was somebody with a pellet gun or a sling shot," said Sgt. Jeff Graham of the West Valley Station.

The Reseda locations included Pete's Coffee and Tea at 1897 Ventura Blvd., Marinello School of Beauty at 18422 Sherman Way, and Variety Printing and Graphics at 17612 Sherman Way, a video news crew reported.

The Van Nuys locations included Western Bagel at 7814 Sepulveda Blvd., and one of the damaged vehicles was on Sherman Way, a video news crew reported.

"They hit the bagel shop and three cars," said Sgt. Roger Aguirre of the Van Nuys Station.

The shootings occurred in a three- to four-mile radius, On Scene reported.

It seems to be spreading...

Sounds like someone's idea of having fun. They got a right you know. It's in the Constitution, pursuit of happiness.

Western Bagel is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with people behind the counter. They make fresh bagels and pastries in the back.

I don't recall if there are windows facing the street, but it has a postage stamp parking lot with the door and large store windows facing it suggesting to me that they pulled into the parking lot.

Some pump up pellet guns from China can have the power of a 22 rifle.
