I have to give the illegal immigrant cheerleaders at the L.A. Times credit for originality. I hadn't heard this pitch or angle previously.

You see, we should really allow illegal aliens to work and stay here b/c our laws are driving them into suicidal depression ...

Some details here. He had five siblings. Were they illegal immigrants? What about his diabetic mother, was she an illegal immigrant? Who was paying for her medical treatment?

Luna's family has come a long way since they carried him over the bridge from the industrial town of Reynosa, Mexico, as a newborn. His father left when he was small. His mother and siblings worked as migrants, and Luna traveled with them to Arkansas, Indiana and Minnesota.

"Carried him over the bridge ..." So his parents were illegals? His siblings are either illegal or counterfeit citizens.

Now the family lives in some of the better homes in their La Homa neighborhood, a step up from the patched trailers down their dead-end street. Luna, a lanky guitarist with an impish grin, wanted to help them rise even further.

He aced college credit classes at Benito Juarez-Abraham Lincoln High School. ...

Luna was ineligible for federal aid, but teachers reminded him that Texas considers such illegal immigrant students eligible for state aid.

After his death, his family discovered a letter saying he had recently been accepted to the University of Texas-Pan American, pending his new ACT score and transcript. Luna titled his application essay for a scholarship there "Dream."

...

So they are living "better" now? What are these illegals doing now? This suicide can be laid at the feet of his criminal parents and their irresponsibility in trafficking children into the country illegally. Our first responsibility is to the education of legitimate citizens and their children not harden criminals exploiting our weak borders and corrupt labor market.
