View Full Version : Obama Trots Out Worn Out Garage Sale Concept

The Obama administration wants to have a garage sale of federal properties deemed "under-used" to raise money to throw at the national debt. Not surprisingly, his republican opponents embraced the thought as well. And why wouldn't they? Government assets sold off at a time when prices are depressed and competitors with purchasing power have been reduced to only the traditionally monied interests who have hovered like vultures at fire sales like this for decades.
The congressional budget office has all but scoffed at this as drawing any worthwhile funds into the federal coffers, but assuredly that will not affect the administration's plan to go forth. After all, it's not the money for government they are after, but rather redistribution of public assets to monied interests salivating over rock bottom prices that's the goal.
Hardly a new concept at all. I recall as far back as Reagan's reign that this was practiced, with the same results. Investors bought up public lands, and the national debt was not affected. The taxpayers lost as usual. If the administration really wanted to make a dent in the national debt, they would cut benefits that go to people in the country illegally, such as farm workers who are constantly being propped up by the farm bill. If immigrants, legal or no, are such a beneficial asset to our economy, they sure as hell should be able to survive without the taxpayers having to sell off their lighthouses, airstrips, and buildings in an obviously failing effort to control spending

Does he want to sell NASA? We aren't using it. Anyone notice that even the Chinese are now putting up a space station? We used to have one and now we go begging to the Russians for theirs.
