House GOP Plan Gets Tough on Illegal Immigration
House GOP members are mounting a hard-hitting campaign against illegal immigration, calling on the government to develop a plan to bring illegal entry into the country down to nearly zero in five years. Michigan Rep. Candice Miller’s Secure Border Act of 2011 has 11 co-sponsors, including Homeland Security Committee Chairman Peter King, R-N.Y., the Los Angeles Times reported.
The legislation, which could be introduced this week, would require the Homeland Security Department to come up with a five-year plan to decrease illegal entries and smuggling down to nearly zero and involve adding more fencing, sensors, agents and even drones. The plan would be submitted to Congress, which would then decide whether to fund it, the Times said.

The United States has spent $4.5 billion to improve border security since 9/11, and Miller’s legislation could raise that amount dramatically.

"They need to be very candid with us and tell us what they need," Miller told the Times. "We're the ones passing the budgets and we have to decide amongst ourselves."
