Obama DHS accused of "stealth amnesty" plan for illegal aliens
Two Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuits against the Obama Department of Homeland Security were filed this week to obtain records detailing the Obama administration’s alleged plan to grant legal status to illegal aliens without first going through Congress.
Such a strategy is commonly known as “stealth amnesty.” During a recent segment on the Fox News Channel, Senator Chuck Grassley was interviewed about an Obama administration memo that outlined options for granting amnesty to illegal immigrants without congressional approval. Grassley said that Democrats know they cannot pass an amnesty bill and are trying to circumvent Congress on immigration.
Since last year, the Obama administration has been holding behind-the-scenes talks to determine whether the Department of Homeland Security can unilaterally give illegal aliens legal status with going through the process of having the U.S. Congress create and pass legislation, according to the Fox News.
Basically, it's a backdoor amnesty plan devised by high-ranking officials at the Homeland Security Department's U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
The public-interest group Judicial Watch is in the midst of investigating the alleged plan by the Obama administration to suspend deportations of illegal aliens who are in the country unlawfully (Judicial Watch v. US Department of Homeland Security (No. 11-604) and Judicial Watch v. US Department of Homeland Security (No. 11-606)).
On July 2, 2010, Judicial Watch sent a FOIA request to DHS seeking the following information: “Any and all records of communications between the Department of Homeland Security and any of the following entities, concerning ‘deferred action’ or ‘parole’ to suspend removal proceedings against a particular individual or group of individuals for a specific timeframe; as well as records of communications concerning ‘selective reprieve’ to the segment of the population holding expired visas: The White House; The Executive Office of the President; Any third parties.”
