Philippine immigration officials have arrested six Indian nationals suspected of being involved in a human trafficking syndicate operating in South East Asia.

Immigration official Alberto Braganza says the Indian nationals are believed to have links with a human trafficking syndicate led by an influential compatriot, based in the region.

Border control agents say the Indians came from Malaysia and tried to enter the Philippines through the south-western province of Tawi-Tawi.

They were allegedly carrying fake travel documents and their passports did not departure stamps from Malaysia.

The six are being detained and will be deported.

Many Filipinos fall prey to human trafficking due to poverty, especially in rural areas.

The Philippines is trying to improve its anti-human trafficking record.

Just because they were from India, one should not presume they were Hindu, that is not necessarily so. Although, Hindus have been known to do a lot migrating and not just high tech visas.
