Two alleged members of a street gang will not be charged at this time in the slaying of a Daly City man who was shot after getting off a Muni bus on Mission Street near his home, a prosecutor said today.

Carlos Mejia-Quintanilla, 20, of San Francisco and David Mejia-Sensente, 26, of Daly City were arrested Friday afternoon in the shooting death of Alexander Castanon.

No charges will be filed against them pending further investigation by police, said Steve Wagstaffe, San Mateo County's chief deputy district attorney. But the two men will remain in custody on federal immigration violations and could still face prosecution later, authorities said.

Castanon, 26, was shot in the head early June 21 on the 6200 block of Mission Street, two blocks from his home.Investigators believe he had been in an altercation on a Muni bus.

Castanon worked at the Baby Blues BBQ on Mission Street in San Francisco and was not a gang member, police and friends said.

Mejia-Quintanilla and Mejia-Sensente are suspected of belonging to the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13), which law enforcement officials consider one of the most dangerous street gangs in the area.
