This October 30 newspaper story reports that the Republican Party of Nevada finally counted the votes from its 2008 presidential caucus in the 2nd U.S. House district. The 2nd distrist is the district that encompasses almost all of the state of Nevada except Las Vegas and its suburbs. The returns show that three Ron Paul delegates would have been sent to the national convention, instead of three John McCain delegates, if the votes had been counted.

The ballots had been locked up for 18 months in a casino cashiers cage at the Peppermill, where the state convention had been held. Thanks to Jack Dean for the link.

Well that says a lot about our election process. We are beginning to realize we need a great deal of oversight and pay more attention to our own election process. But instead we're over in other countries watching theirs.

Have the votes for president EVER been counted?

We know that at as soon as the polls closed on the west coast obamadinejad was declared the winner without a SINGLE vote being counted. Have they ever been counted?

Well Kathy,

If the Secretary Of State is to be believed, yes they did:

And here's the summary of how many registered voters vs how many were eligible to vote

State Total 17,304,091 vs 23,208,710
And the bottom line is that only around 14 million actually cast ballots for president. There could be more that voted in other races or measures though.

There's no evidence that they stopped counting ballots after Obama was declared the victor. Other ballots would still have the other races and measures on them, so a complete count would be required, and the presidential column would still be part of it

Some people start a story and those who want to believe it will not give up. I read so many contradicting statements that I cannot make up my mind many times. If I cannot believe a story I just shelve it. I refuse to waste hours of my time just to prove a lair or fabricator is one of those two. I never could understand where that story came from about the votes not being counted. Makes no matter, he is in office an appears he will stay in office.

It's easy to get a story like that started, simply because the election was called prior to California counted all their votes. There's a simple solution to this, and that is to allow a complete count prior to making declarations like this ahead of a states' official count. That includes candidates conceding the race

Don't they usually call an election when one person is so far ahead that it is not reansonable to think that person will not prevail? I always thought and still think all the votes are eventually counted. I remember one year when I worked at the polls they found boxes of absentee ballots that had never been counted. That is when I stopped voting absentee.

It is not the job of the Secretary of State to speculate or predict the outcomes of races.

This kind of stuff has gone on for years. I remember while driving home from work the radio announced that Nixon had won. Mind you it was about 4:30 pm, long before the poles closed. I still voted when I got home and it was not for Nixon.

The question remains. How did obamadinejad win before the votes were counted? I'm not going to say that I don't trust the vote counting, but AFTER the fact, it's easier to adjust the votes than if no determination was made until all the votes had been counted.

Totally agree with you Kathy. It needs to change, but how to bring that about? Because it's a national election, it would be a congressional change, and you know how hard that is. Changing California code might put some pressure on them to do so, but what would that be?

Disaffected Republicans who supported U.S. Rep. Ron Paul in last year's presidential election have formed a political action committee to derail the campaign of Lowden, the early GOP front-runner.

Robert Holloway, director of the Fair Nevada Elections PAC, contends Lowden as state chair cheated Paul supporters out of a place at the Republican National Convention last year.
