On the matter of the Mexican illegal aliens that persist in sneaking across the border to work here I want to amplify some more aspects of the conditions in Mexico.
There are two books that provide a terrific insight, and detail, into what has happened to exacerbate the problem. #1. The Global Class War by Jeff Faux. #2. The History of Mexico by Burton Kirkwood. These books are far too extensive and complex to review in detail here but they are excellent in providing the minute details of what has happened and how we got to where we are now with this massive invasion.
To focus on only one character, Carlos Slim, Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlos_Slim is now effectively now the world's richest man this year beating out Robert Gates and Warren Buffet.
At the time that Carlos Salina de Gortari was running for President of Mexico *( term 1988 - 1994 ) he invited numerous Mexican millionaires to his home for a pre-election meeting where he solicited millions of dollars in pledges from them in exchange for considerations of favors from him when elected. Carlos Slim got the privatization of the Mexican telephone TeleMex that gave him a monopoly there. He raised phone rates 170%.
Much of the decline and chaos in Mexico occurred during the Clinton administration where NAFTA and GATT came into effect. The oligarchy is composed of a small percentage of the very rich and the vast majority are dirt poor Campesino's. Land was concentrated into the hands of massive Agro-growers while peasants lost small plots and became destitute moving into slums to live in abject poverty.
Clintons secretary of treasury, Robert Rubin, manipulated with Mexico to privatize the banks result of which, combined, was a devaluation of the peso and raging inflation.
The rampant corruption and incompetence is the principal reason that Mexico's impoverished are fleeing the country. That is coupled with the NAFTA agreement as well as PEMEX the Mexican oil company's further corruption.
